2005 Dr. Psychol (PhD) in psychology, University of Oslo. Thesis title: Integrating brain and behavior throughout the adult life-span. Supervisor: professor Ivar Reinvang 2001 Cand. Psychol (professional degree in psychology), licensed psychologist Employment history
2007-present Professor in neuropsychology, Institute of Psychology, UiO 2005-2007 Associate professor in neuropsychology, Institute of Psychology, UiO Scientific leader for the ERP lab at the Institute of Psychology 2005 Guest researcher, Martinos Center for Biomed Imaging, Harvard Med School. Funded by grant from NFR (2 months). 2002 Guest researcher, Martinos Center for Biomed Imaging, Harvard Med School. Funded by grant from NFR to Walhovd (3 months). 2002-2005 Enrolled in the PhD program at the Institute of Psychology, University of Oslo. Grant from NFR to Walhovd, Supervisor: I. Reinvang 2001-present Clinical neuropsychology/ research position at the Department of neuropsychology, Ullevål University Hospital, 15-50% position 2000-2001 Student research fellow, Institute of Psychology, UiO. Grant from NFR to Walhovd. Research activity, management, and achievements
In 2000 granted student research fellowship from NFR, to initiate and complete a project together with co-student Anders M Fjell on electrophysiological and neuropsychological changes from 20 to 90 years. The fellowship was continued part time throughout 2001, and resulted in two papers in scientific journals before graduation. In 2001, NFR granted a PhD project lead and managed by Walhovd and Fjell, supervised by Reinvang, with the purpose of studying how changes in cognitive abilities throughout the adult life-span is related to electrophysiological and MR-morphometric changes. This project resulted in a number of papers, and established a national and international network of collaborators. In 2005, Walhovd initiated a project of consequences of exposure for opiates in utero for MR-morphometric and white matter (DTI) characteristics in relation to a project on cognitive function by Vibeke Moe and Kari Slinning. The first paper from this study is under review. From 2006, Reinvang (leader) with Walhovd and Fjell as co-applicants, received a grant from NFR to study the biological foundation for life-span changes, with a focus on development and adult genetics. In addition, Walhovd has initiated or collaborated on a number of smaller and larger studies, including schizophrenia (leader: prof. Agartz), genetics (leader: prof. Reinvang), MCI/ Alzheimer (leader: Fladby, MD), focal brain injuries (leaders: Walhovd and Fjell), and the biology of personality (leaders: Walhovd and Fjell). From 2005, Walhovd has been the leader of the ERP lab at PSI, and was responsible for the major upgrading that took place last year. Together with Fjell, Walhovd has established the morphometric and DTI neuroimaging group at the Institute of Psychology, housed in the neuroimaging analysis lab the same place. This lab is now an important resource for the neuropsychology research group, and includes powerful workstations for analyses of most kinds of neuroimaging data (MR-morphometry, DTI, ERP, fMRI). Teaching and supervisory experience
Experience with teaching and supervision at all levels at the Institute of Psychology, UiO. Has held, and currently holds lectures in Biological psychology in the introductory course in psychology, in addition to supervision in smaller groups. Has held and currently holds lectures in perception, plasticity-memory-learning, CNS and cognitive development (phylogenetic, ontogenetic) on the BA program, lectures in evolutionary psychology, development-adaptation-plasticity, neuroimaging, ERP in the professional psychology program. Supervision and organization of students’ research projects in ERP-research (10 students each term). Has supervised 20 term papers in the professional program in psychology. Currently supervising 7 research assistants, giving training in neuropsychological testing, ERP recordings and analyses, MR-morphometric and DTI-analyses. Has supervised/ supervises 3 master thesis candidates (Mehling, Beitnes-Johansen, Østby), 3 student research fellows with NFR-stipend (Stige, Amlien, Engvik), 1 PhD candidate (Østby) and is co-supervisor of 1 PhD candidate (Tamnes). Coordinated the BA course (Brain and cognition throughout the life-span) in 2005 , and the 2nd term of the professional education in psychology (Biological psychology) Spring 2006.
